Online Store, Shipping, and Blueberries

July 1st, 2009

After a few weeks of trial, our new online store featuring Google Checkout is working wonderfully.   It’s pretty simple to use, and even all on one page.  Just make sure to follow the directions…  Oh, and we can ship granola bars and scones now too.  We can stuff 18 granola bars into a small priority flat rate mailer, or 10 granola bars and 6 scones.  It only takes 2 days after shipping to get anywhere in the continental U.S., AND, surprisingly ahead of the curve, the USPS is the only shipper with Cradle to Cradle certified corrugated boxes and mailers.  Until Fed Ex, UPS, and all the others catch up, we’ll stick with the USPS.

Now that blueberries are ripening over at Lost Branch Blueberry Farm 6 miles outside of Kirksville, we have a local source of fresh berries to fill our scones and muffins with.   We plan on taking some pictures when we go out tomorrow morning to pick our next round of berries.

Time to go.  The Sourdough is calling.

Waters of Hope

May 24th, 2009

A group of bikers is touring the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri to raise money for clean water projects in the Sudan and Swaziland.  They’re starting their ride tomorrow morning, and will come stay in Kirksville on Tuesday night.  They’ll be fed some Covert Cupboard scones and granola in the morning before they head off to Columbia.  So be on the look out for a group of riders with a good cause.  Check out their website at www.watersofhope.org.

Farewell, Brett

May 12th, 2009

Our friend Brett Wiley is going off to Vermont for the summer to indulge in a sea of maple syrup. He might be back at the end of August, or he might not be. No one really knows. But for now, it’s just Michelle, Oliver (the youngest member of the Covert Cupboard at 22 months old), and me, Jerry. We’re all hoping (including Brett) that we get to work with him again this fall.

As for us, why would we ever want to miss another beautiful Kirksville summer?

Farmer’s Market

May 4th, 2009

A beautiful, calm morning welcomed the Covert Cupboard to a new season of the Farmer’s Market last Saturday.  It was great to see everyone again and enjoy the company of so many amazing people.

The pre-order forms worked, but one person’s order didn’t go through so I’ve modified the form to send a confirmation email when the order form is submitted.  Hopefully, this will mean that if you get the confirmation email, we got your order.  I’m also working on a pre-paid order form through google checkout so you can relax on your Saturday morning and know your goodies will be there when you get there. The pre-order form is up for this coming Saturday, so be sure to reserve your bread before it’s all gone!

The Kirksville Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Taste of Home Cooking show tomorrow, and Truman’s Small Business Office, who helped get us up and running, will be there with 200 of our granola bars to give away.  So, if you haven’t tried our infamous granola bars yet, get a ticket for the event and sh

Getting Closer

April 3rd, 2009

Not much longer until we’ll be out with our breads and goodies.  If not before, we’ll definitely be there for the first day of Kirksville’s Farmer’s Market in May.  If we get all our stuff ready before then, we’ll be sure to let you know.

We’ve been researching environmentally-responsible businesses and products to incorporate into the Covert Cupboard, and have finally found a few that can meet our high environmental standards as well as being somewhat affordable.  An awesome find is that we hope to use a home compost-able wrapper, called Nature Flex, for our granola bars.  We’ve ordered our 100% recycled, soy ink printed business cards from www.greenerprinter.com, and are still looking for what kind of recycled paper (for menus) and bags we’ll use.  If you happen to have good connections in those areas, we’d love your help.

Help us out!

February 26th, 2009

Before we can start up the bakery, we need to know what the wonderful people of Kirksville really want.  So, if you have a few minutes, we would love if you could help us out by taking our survey.

Take the survey.

If you want to stay updated on our bakery, please subscribe to our email list.

Thanks!
